FAQ's
What should we wear to look our best in your fabulous family pictures?
It is really up to you! Let your personalities shine through! Just try to avoid logos on the clothing. Also avoid pastel colors if you are planning a beach photography session as the colors tend to blend in with the sand. White or dark colors look much better at the shore.
Kids look great in solid colors and stripes. Bright colors make pictures more fun. If there are several kids in the picture you can make them matchy-matchy or coordinate colors. Do make sure that the kids are wearing something they are comfortable in. If little Ava’s dress is itchy, she’s going to show it in her face for all the pictures. Find her a more comfortable dress or let her go more casual. Same thing for little Aiden’s tie and the shoes that are too tight.
What should I dress my newborn in for the portraits?
Simple works best for itty bitty babies. Soft colors, white, nothing that is going to compete with that perfect newborn skin. We’ll probably take some pictures in just a diaper or nothing at all as well.
Make sure to pull out some favorite baby blankets. Fun textures and colors add interest to the photos. We can lay your little angel out on the blankets for some photos and snuggle her into a swaddle for others. You know your child best, and if wrapping him up will keep him happier, we’ll capitalize on that for the wardrobe.
Hats are also a WONDERFUL prop for newborn photography. If you have some you love, pull them out so we can play with them during the session.
Where do you do newborn photography sessions?
I shoot all my newborn photo sessions at your home. That way you and baby will be comfortable. You’ll have access to diapers and food. You’ll be sheltered from all of the germs out in the world. We will need a room with a window or other good lighting to make for beautiful portraits.
One important thing to remember for this type of photo is that we will need a space that is orderly as a backdrop for the photos. Often the nursery works well. Babies also look cute cuddled up in modern adult furniture, so look around the house and think about where you’d like a few photos. If you have any baskets or bowls that might fit a newborn wrapped in a blanket, let me know and we’ll see if we can make it happen..
When should I schedule my newborn photography session?
During the first 10 days of life babies are so sleepy that they tend to sleep right through shoots. We love that! They still have the newborn “curl” from the position they kept in the womb during that time as well (unless they were breech like mine, and then their legs stick up funny when you try to get the cute curled up baby pictures!) Babies also tend to have clearer skin during the first week or so.
When should I pay?
Payment is due in full at the time of the session.
What is your motivation?
Jesus! And my family. I know with all my hear t that Jesus took all of the sin that I was born with, and that everyone was born with, and died on the cross for our sake. He did this because he loves us. Because he did this, God can look at me and see a beautiful creation instead of looking at me and seeing a rebellious child trying to keep my pride intact. I want to capture that essence through my lens. I want to catch you as you are… STUNNINGLY beautiful. Just like God sees you. I know it can be hard to see yourself that way.
This photography business is something I’ve been doing for the last 3 years. Eighteen months ago a delightfully chubby little boy was born into our family, and so I stopped teaching special education (which I also love) to stay home and be a mama. I feel blessed that I’ve been given the talent and the opportunity and I’m making the most of it while it is here. My photography lets me continue to be a mama during the day. I spend my mornings playing cars and making sure the baby eats his vegetables. He goes down for a nap around 1 and then I edit through the afternoon. I apologize if I don’t answer the phone during the morning hours. We often spend time running around screaming with delight, too noisily to hear the cell ringing. =)
Do you shoot film or digital? What kind of equipment do you use?
We are 100% digital. We shoot with professional grade Canon equipment.
Do you have back-up equipment?
We do bring a back-up Canon camera with us to the wedding, as well as extra lenses in case something happens and a piece of equipment stops working. It has never happened, but we’re safe just in case.
What if something happens and you can’t be at my wedding for some reason?
We have not ever had this problem, but if something were to happen we would try our hardest to find a suitable replacement photographer. We network with several other great WPJA photographers for this very reason. If we were unable to complete our duties, a full refund would be given, including the retainer fee.
What if I would like services/products not included in the options?
Just ask! We’d be happy to research exactly what you want and mostly likely can supply it!
Will you be the actual photographer on my wedding day?
Without a doubt! We are the only two photographers working for Kurz Studio Photography. We will be there photographing your wedding day.
How do we know exactly what to expect from you?
You can expect professionalism mixed with fun! I'm hard working, yet easy going and I give it my all to capture the beauty of your wedding day. The images you see on my web site and my blog are a representation of the style of images you can expect to see.
What area do you cover? Do you charge travel fees?
We are based in Tampa and Sebring, Florida, but will gladly travel anywhere! There are no travel fees for weddings in the greater Tampa area, Lakeland, Winter Haven, Sebring, Lake Placid, Avon Park, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, or Wesley Chapel. Please ask about specific pricing for Destination Weddings.
Do you retouch the photographs?
Each image you receive will be inspected, color corrected, and exposure balanced if needed. If Uncle Bob got a bad sunburn because he couldn’t resist the allure of Clearwater Beach the day before the wedding, we will do our best to de-lobster him. If your skin is not as clear as you hoped for on wedding day, we can also work with that situation. Specific retouching requests can be made as well.
Can we request specific shots?
Absolutely! It's very important to have a specific list of formal family and wedding party portraits that you would like taken on the wedding day. This helps the photography process flow much more smoothly during the posed shots. We prefer that you complete this list and email it to us a month or so before the wedding so that we can be sure to get all of the groupings of people you want. We have on occasion received a long list of necessary shots wanted throughout the ceremony. We do our best to accommodate, but due to the nature of wedding photography we cannot guarantee a specific shot. We can be in the perfect spot waiting to snap the photo when someone inadvertently moves between us and the moment.
How soon will the photographs be ready?
We try to get a few sneak peak images on our blog within 72 hours of the wedding. Your online viewing gallery will be available within 2 month from your wedding. Your disc of images will be mailed by the 2 month mark. Prints take 2-3 weeks and album creation takes 6-10 weeks.
Can you do black and white images?
Yes, black and white and sepia toned images are available. We can also do fancy, artsy images if you request them. Let us know what styles you like and how many (relatively speaking) of them you want. Typically we edit most of the images as color and include 30% or so as black and white.
What will you wear to the wedding?
Drew usually wears dark pants and a button down shirt in a color that doesn’t attract attention. I wear black pants and a dressy black blouse. If your wedding lends itself to different attire (dressier or more casual,) just let us know and we’ll be happy to dress accordingly!
